Misha Collins reveals first details of Castiel's resurrection in Supernatural season 13

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Supernatural season 13.
Nobody stays dead forever on Supernatural, and now Misha Collins has hinted at where and how we'll find Castiel in season 13.

Cas was apparently killed by Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino) in season 12's finale, but Collins told Digital Spy at San Diego Comic-Con that we'll actually rediscover the character in a very unusual set of circumstances.

"Cas – when he does come back as more than a lifeless body – we find him in a realm that we've talked about on Supernatural before but have never seen," he revealed. "He finds himself alone in this realm with only one other companion, who is another powerful being, played by a great actress."

In the interim, Collins said that Castiel's absence will have a profound impact on the Winchester brothers.

"The most relevant aspect of Castiel's death, this time, is how the boys process it. Ultimately, as the season plays out, Castiel's death is gonna be less important for him then it is for the boys, who go through the grieving process and really have to deal with the loss of their friend."

Jensen Ackles revealed to us that Dean in particular will struggle with the loss of Castiel, and Crowley (Mark Sheppard), and Kelly (Courtney Ford) – damn, that was a tough finale.

"The exact moment we left off – literally with Cas at Dean's feet – is where we show up at the beginning of season 13," Ackles said. "It's interesting, 'cause Mom is gone and presumably dead, Crowley just killed himself, Cas is now lying dead at Dean's feet. Kelly's gone... it's too much for Dean to process at that moment.

"So he does the thing that he knows how to do best and that is neutralise the threat – as in, Lucifer's son – so he's just gonna do that, 'cause that's something that he can hit. There's too much emotion, he doesn't know how to process, so he's just gonna do what he knows and that's hit something – hard."

Dean's behaviour will lead to a "struggle" between him and Sam (Jared Padalecki): " It's certainly not going back to the seasons when they were really at odds. It's more of, 'Let's figure out how to handle this situation' – Sam wants to deal with it one way, Dean wants to deal with it another.

"They're not gonna argue about it, they're gonna eventually get to the same place... it's just how they get there is a little different. But at some point, Dean's gonna have to deal with [his grief] and that'll be probably a pretty hard episode."

In his turmoil, Dean will even turn to God – which means something quite different in the Supernatural universe.

"Once he realises the severity of the situation, he tries to reach out to God, who as we all know is gone. But he figures he'll take a stab at it."

Could God / Chuck Shurley (Rob Benedict) be the latest SPN favourite to make a comeback in season 13? We've got everything crossed...
